Dr. Richard Gutowski
Dr. Richard Gutowski had passion for learning and had a quest for knowledge, and thoroughly enjoyed students who shared these passions. Dr. Gutowski received his BA in Chemistry and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He worked for Johnson Matthey Inc. for more than thirty years and during that time was recognized as an expert in many of the varied disciplines of chemistry, traveling throughout the world on behalf of the corporation. While working for Johnson Matthey Dr. Gutowski also taught Chemistry as an adjunct professor at the Engineering School of Rowan University. Although he was accomplished in his field, Dr. Gutowski still had a passion for further knowledge. While working full time and raising a family, he decided to enter law school and completed his Juris Doctor at Rutgers Law School in Camden. Dr Gutowski excelled in his studies and graduated in the top 5% of his law school class. In 2002 Dr. Gutowski became a member of the Gloucester County College Foundation and served on the Foundation scholarship committee, the committee that allocated funding for GCC students. He strongly advocated for student scholarships and support for those looking to improve their lives through education. On April 23, 2012, Dr. Gutowski tragically passed away at the age of 64, after a very brief battle with cancer. To continue Dr. Gutowski’s efforts to provide scholarships to deserving students, Johnson Matthey Inc. has agreed to fund an endowment in his honor and memory. The endowment will provide a scholarship to a deserving student attending GCC forever, and will carry on the legacy and inspiration that Dr. Gutowski wished to instill in those seeking a post-secondary degree.
