Kristina C. Fernald

Nicholas Caraganis died in September of 2002 at the age of 82 primarily due to Alzheimer’s. His daughter, Kristina C. Fernald, established this scholarship in his name. Overcoming financial difficulty and the death of his father at a young age, Mr. Caraganis supported himself through college and went on to earn a degree in Animal Husbandry from The University of Massachusetts. Mr. Caraganis joined the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in college, served in World War II, and retired from the Army Reserves as a Colonel. He was a loving and supportive husband and father; instilling in his children the value of family, education and work ethic.
