Mrs. Judy Weems

Dr. Don B. Weems, Sr. and his wife Ada Bessey Weems were instrumental in the establishment of GCC. Dr. Weems practiced medicine in Gloucester County for more than 50 years, with his office located in Wenonah, New Jersey. Dr. Weems was one of the founders of GCC, having served on the committee appointed to site the college, and later as a charter member of the GCC Board of Trustees. Serving as a college Trustee from 1966 – 1976., Dr. Weems was instrumental in the early growth of GCC and he was one of the college’s greatest supporters and advocates. Ada Bessey Weems was a registered nurse who greatly supported the GCC nursing program and GCC nursing department. Upon the death of Dr. Don B. Weems, Sr. in 1983, Ada and his son, Dr. Don B. Deems, Jr., established a scholarship to provide financial assistance to students pursing a career in nursing. Ada Bessey Weems continued to support the college and upon her death, the family added additional funds to assure the continued issuance of a scholarship to a deserving nursing student.
